Basic punches

Basic punches

In various types of martial arts, there are a huge number of types of strikes. At the same time, people use almost all the limbs of the body. Just remember Chinese films about kung fu or Jackie Chan.

In this article I will tell you about basic punches. No one will tell you about all the types. To begin with, you don’t need everything.

As Bruce Lee said: “I am not afraid of the one who studies 10,000 different blows. I am afraid of the one who studies one blow 10,000 times.”

In fact, even the same blow in different styles of martial arts can be slightly different.Pay attention to the example below (kickboxing, wing chun, karate).

straight punch in kickboxing

straight punch in wingchun

straight punch in karate

Of the huge variety of punches, 3 main/basic ones can be distinguished.

Straight, side and lower blows.

So. Direct hand blowis carried out in this order:

  1. The hand is located close to your lower jaw (since you are standing in a stance and your hands protect the upper body)
  2. From your jaw, straighten/throw your arm forward. At the same time, slightly rotate the fist in the hand. At the moment of throwing, the hand should be relaxed. The blow will be fast and biting.
  3. We strike the target. At this moment, the row of knuckles of the hand should be parallel to the floor. We hit only with the first two dominoes. At this moment, strain your hand as much as possible. Especially the hand and fist. There should be no bend in the elbow. The arm is absolutely straight.
  4. Return the fist to the starting position, repeating all actions in reverse order

I almost forgot: when we start moving our hand, at the same time we slightly rotate the leg of the same name on the toe. Thus, the heel lifts off the ground a little and describes part of the circle. It should turn out like this: we hit with our left hand – the left leg rotates, with the right – the right.

The video shows what it looks like in action:

A slight rotation on the toe of the foot is involved in all strikes with hands and elbows. Therefore, I will not remind you about this further.

Side impact:

  1. Stand. The hand is located close to the cheekbone.
  2. Bring your fist out through the outside, describing a semicircle.
  3. Strike. In this case, the arm from the elbow to the fist should be parallel to the floor. The section of the hand from the knuckles to the elbow should be on one straight line.
  4. We return the hand to the face for protection.

Bottom blow:

  1. Hand near the face.
  2. Squatting a little on our feet, we bring our fist out from below, describing a semicircle. The side of your palm should be facing your direction. As the hand approaches the target, we straighten the legs a little. As a result, you get a kind of springy movement. Those. when the hand goes down, the body goes down, the hand goes up, so does the body.
  3. Strike from below.
  4. We return the hand to the face for protection.

The more often you practice strikes, the better your technique will be. Boxing paws, mokivars or a punching bag are perfect for this. It is more convenient to practice the force of a blow on a pear, and on the paws it is more convenient to practice accuracy and speed.

That’s all science is.
